Classroom Community Circles
The Classroom Community Circles at Northern Lights provide a unique opportunity for classroom teachers and families to come together 4 times per year. The circles are an opportunity to build stronger connections and engage in meaningful conversation. Every classroom/teacher hosts their own community circle. The meetings are designed for grown-ups, with after school child care provided to ensure families can fully participate.
Classroom Community Circles focus on different topics, guided by Carly, our Climate and Culture Facilitator and Emily our director of Community Relations. The circle conversation is facilitated using a talking piece– an object held by the speaker– which is passed around the room. Participants are invited to speak when it is their turn to hold the talking piece. This format ensures that everyone in the room has an opportunity to speak or to pass, promoting deep listening and respect for diverse perspectives. These circles also model the daily classroom circles that occur during the school day at Northern Lights.
The goal of Classroom Community Circles is to foster a sense of belonging, encourage collaboration between teachers and families, and strengthen relationships, creating a more supportive and inclusive school community.
For current families, Classroom Community Circle dates are listed on the school calendar. We highly encourage families to attend as many sessions as possible.
