Active Learning
We believe all children are naturally curious and capable, competent learners.
We are a progressive model school that believes in whole-child education.
Everyday, our students are active in multiple ways:
Active Bodies
Physical activity is integral to our day, where our students have freedom of movement and space to explore, both inside and outside. We value fresh air and connecting with nature, whether it’s on our playground or on an exploration to the river.
Active Hearts
We believe in strengthening our emotional hearts through intercultural understanding and restorative practices.
Active Connections
Relationships are integral to our mission. Our students will be connected to each other, their teachers, their families, their community, and the outdoors. Through student, parent, and teacher partnerships, we strengthen trust and achieve our ultimate goal: helping the student be the best they can be. Our children are seen as individuals, as well as part of communities.
Active Brains
We believe in student led, project based learning that integrates multiple subjects including science, math, language arts, history, and fine arts, among others. This challenging, engaging work values critical thinking and creativity.
Active Senses
Students will talk and be listened to, seen and heard. They will use their senses everyday to more deeply explore their world. They will be fed nourishing food, some of which they may grow and cook themselves.
"Our task is to help children communicate with the world using all their potential strengths and languages, and to overcome any obstacle presented by our culture."
